What is a 100BASE SFP?

A 100BASE SFP is a pluggable optical transceiver for switches or media converters that explicitly support the required 100 Mbps optical interface. This page lists 26 configurations for comparison by part number, reach, wavelength, optical power and operating temperature. The “125/155 M” source-data field does not by itself prove that every part supports the same protocol.

The listed configurations span 850 / 1310 / 1550 nm and 2–200 km. Nominal reach is a selection starting point, not a field-distance guarantee; the equipment port, protocol, fiber, measured path loss and design margin still need .

What equipment do you have, and how far does it need to go?

Three answers get you most of the way: which switch or media converter you are working with, how many kilometres this link has to cover, and whether the fiber is already in the ground or still to be pulled. For installed fiber we also need the spare core count and the connector type at each end. Those three answers decide which of the 26 rows are still in play; every other column only matters afterwards. Send us those and we can start.

Narrowing to two or three part numbers from the visible columns

Work the table below in this order: match Distance against your kilometre figure, use Wavelength / Cable to confirm both ends agree, then drop rows whose Temperature does not cover the environment. The Remark column restates minimum Output Power minus Sensitivity as a planning link-budget value. Use it to compare candidates; usable reach still depends on measured fiber, connector and splice loss plus design margin, so it is not a distance guarantee.

Site conditions and the record you keep

Indoor racks, outdoor cabinets and substations have different environmental conditions. Select commercial or -40 to 85°C rows only after checking the equipment specification and actual temperature; an outdoor cabinet may run hotter internally than the ambient reading. Temperature range does not establish protocol or application compatibility. Keep the part number, order reference and measured optical levels for later comparison.

Replacing an FX / LX / SX / ZX or OEM part?

  • SX / 850 nm short reach850 nm short-reach links normally run on multimode fiber; see the 850 nm rows below.
  • FX / LX (1310 nm, from 2 km)1310 nm covers 2 km through 60 km and is the usual wavelength for single mode routes. The 2 to 20 km band is commonly labelled 100BASE-LX in the market, and 40 km parts are sometimes listed as 100BASE-EX.
  • ZX / long reach (1550 nm DFB)1550 nm DFB covers 80 km to 200 km, including the 120 km and 200 km ultra-long-reach builds. Anything past 80 km is commonly labelled 100BASE-ZX, and spans beyond 120 km are sometimes called EZX.
  • OEM part number and device compatibilitySend the OEM part number, exact device model, port, software version and protocol. EEPROM coding and hardware validation can be evaluated; results apply only to the validated combination.

Wavelength and reach are in the table below. ZX and EZX are market labels for reach bands; IEEE 802.3 does not define either name. Usable distance depends on optical budget, measured path loss and design margin. The PHY and protocol for a specific part still require confirmation from source data and the target equipment.

How is suitability for a specified device confirmed?
Provide the complete device model, port, software or firmware version, protocol and exact part number. Compatibility results apply only to the validated device, software, port and part-number combination.
What inspections are performed before shipment?
After production and before shipment, SANOC performs FQC and OQC inspections according to the product, lot size, and applicable sampling plan. OQC includes a pre-shipment visual inspection. Inspection items, sample quantities, and available quality documentation are confirmed based on the product and order requirements.
Does compliance with IEEE, SFF or MSA mean compatibility with every device?
No. These standards define basic interfaces, form factors, pin assignments and data formats. Actual compatibility must still be checked against the device, port, software or firmware version, protocol and module part number.
Is an established link enough to proceed directly with deployment?
Not by itself. Before deployment, check transmit and receive optical power, DDM/DOM alarms, temperature, link loss and compatibility with the target platform.
How should a part number be selected from the product specification table?
Compare data rate, reach, wavelength or cable, interface, transmit power, receiver sensitivity and operating temperature. Do not infer values that are not listed; request the Datasheet for the exact part number when complete conditions are required.
